Yesterday morning, the great artist Ahmed Khalil died at the age of 80, after his health deteriorated due to his infection with the Corona virus.
Ahmed Khalil is a great actor, born in Dakahlia in 1941, he joined the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts. His father, the doctor, was dismissive of the idea, but agreed after it was stipulated that he enter the directing department, but Ahmed Khalil’s love for acting made him specialize in it without his father’s knowledge.
He graduated in 1965, and his father discovered the matter during President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s honoring of him the following year, because he was the first in his class at the time.
He played multiple roles through the Pocket Theater, and several films, before he traveled to the Gulf and became famous there, then returned to Egypt and played important roles in series that he is still famous for today.
For example, he played the role of the merchant Atta Al-Marakibi in the series “Hadith Al-Sabah wa Al-Masaa” (based on a novel by Naguib Mahfouz with the same name), who started his life as an orphan, lived in the house of a Moroccan merchant in the Ghoria region, then married his daughter and ran the trade that she inherited from her family Until she died, and then began to work his own business and wealth, in conjunction with major events that the country is going through, such as the Cairo revolution against Napoleon Bonaparte, the Urabi revolution and other prominent events.
He also played the role of Al-Maalem Al-Saftawi in the series “Opera Aida”, the role of Mahmoud Pasha Al-Shazly in “Hawanem Garden City”, and Fadel Bey Al-Sukari in the series “Zaman Imad Al-Din”. In addition to other roles in the series “The Halawani Gate” and the movie “Nasser 56”.
His keenness to choose his roles carefully was very intense, and he says that he does not accept any work of art that he is ashamed of, or he presented a role that he says he chose wrongly, and he was keen to do something bad.
He married twice, the first to the artist Suhair Al-Babli at the beginning of his artistic life, and the marriage lasted for two years before they separated due to the incompatibility between them, but their relationship was good after that and they acted with each other after that. Then he married a German woman, and they preferred to be married until his death.
