From today and for a week, we will start a campaign to write about women’s issues in Egypt, we invite you to participate in it using the hashtag #Haqha, through which we will try to present the suffering of women in Egypt in different files, and publish their stories about the problems they face, especially harassment, sexual violence, circumcision and wage discrimination Deprivation of inheritance, obstacles to work and education, and other problems that Egyptian society still places on women’s shoulders.
– Also during the week, we will publish content focusing on many of these problems and our vision of the Egyptian position to solve them, and we will present global experiences that we can benefit from to think about the role of the state and society in this.
– During the recent period, we have seen a number of important issues related to Egyptian women that have remained the subject of wide discussion in society, and some of them have gained great momentum, but unfortunately all of them have not had a positive momentum, because there is resistance from large sectors to change, whether with false scientific arguments or false or misleading religious arguments despite Al-Azhar and the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta have issued clear fatwas on matters such as female circumcision, for example. This is not a famous person on social media who, unfortunately, want to keep a trend and motivate millions of people behind them because it is more reactionary in dealing with women.
– But despite the constant resistance to change, there are real achievements on the ground, whether at the legal level by increasing the penalty for harassment, or at the level of beginning to appoint women to positions in the State Council and the Public Prosecution Office, which we explained earlier is not a sudden government grant as much as it is the product of a struggle for decades , and other achievements, the most important of which, in our opinion, is that women’s issues have remained the focus of constant discussion and debate in the public sphere in Egypt.
The whole world is changing, and various women’s issues, from wage discrimination to harassment and sexual violence, remain on the discussion agenda in almost all countries of the world, and data and statistics are published about them. We have seen the fall of government officials, billionaires, stars and celebrities in cases of harassment and sexual assault, and some of them have been imprisoned or paid compensation. huge.
-Therefore, there is no logic that says that we remain silent about this and hide our heads in the sand in the face of important and present problems in our society and that affect all of us and all of our mothers, sisters, wives and all six in Egypt.
– This does not mean, of course, that women’s problems are separated from all the problems of society, poverty, unemployment, unfair elections and many others. All are economic and political crises that affect every male or female citizen, and their solutions are general, but there is also an additional aspect related to women, and there is a role for society in their hands. Each one of us with his surroundings side the required role of the state.
